Going Mexi-Chinese at Playa |
Check out John Sedlar's new Chinese-Mexican menu at Playa, dishes he created based on his visits to Mexicali and the northern Sea of Cortez coast. It was a hotbed of activity for Chinese immigrants thousands of years ago, and the influence is still seen in the food today. He brings back dishes like spring rolls verde, duck egg fu young maize cakes, and wok-cooked Kongming Lantern chiles (7360 Beverly Blvd.; 323-933-5300).
Drink This
Bartendress Jaymee Mandeville unleasehed her seasonal cocktails for the winter at Drago Centro downtown. The Coquettish Angel (mezcal, Boudier Parfait Amour, amaro, egg white and Miracle Mile chocolate chili bitters), or the Black Leaf (Templeton Rye, concord grape shrub, Pierre Ferand dry curacao)should taste mighty fine after ice skating at Pershing Square nearby, especially during the all-day happy hour in the bar (525 S. Flower St.; 213) 228-8998.
