Bi Lokma Will Rise Again in Midtown East

It was sad (and mysterious) news when we learned a few months ago that Orhan Yegen's popular Turkish quick-service spot, Bi Lokma, had shuttered. Yet now we hear the happy intel that the lunchtime favorite will live again. There's just one difference: Yegen himself will not run Bi Lokma, though he still owns the space. Instead he's turned operations over to a fellow Turkey native, Nesrin Oncu, who hopes to reopen by the middle of this month.

This is the first restaurant-world foray for the former graphic arts and photography specialist, though she tells us she's worked in hospitality in the past. "I love to serve people and make them happy," she explains. Oncu said she's just hired a chef and is ready to go into the space and prepare it for the reopening. She plans to keep a similar menu, though certain more complicated dishes might only be available as specials or in the evening, in order to focus on efficient lunch service during the eatery's busiest few hours. For his part, Yegen tells us that the intense midday rush is what compelled him to exit the project. "I didn't want to compromise the quality," he said (212 East 45th St.).
