Golden and delicious at The Pikey
If you're not looking forward to the weekend enough yet, there's this: Saturday, July 13, is National French Fry Day. In true fake "food holiday" fashion, we think this is very good reason to eat some fries - fried in duck fat, beef tallow, smothered in gravy or cheese or chili, or just some good old-fashioned potato logs - any way you prefer them.

We're partial to the delicious fries at The Pikey, and the crisp frites at Bouchon,Comme Ca and Church & State (do a twofer and celebrate Bastille Day while you're at it). David LeFevre's Fee Fi Fo Fum fries at MB Post are called that for good reason - they're giant. And the perfectly golden fries you get with just about everything at Connie and Ted's are pretty fantastic. The smothered fries at Top Round are delicious, especially with gravy, caramelized onions and provel (they're not called "Dirty" for nothing). And if you're truly a fan of smothered fries, there's always poutine, traditional or not. LA is French fry heaven. Where do you get your fix? Let us know in the comments!
