It's no secret that after 800 Degrees found much success with the choose-your-own-pizza-adventure concept that others started to copy the idea. PizzaRev opened several shops around the greater Los Angeles area (the last opened in Woodland Hills this past December) with more on the way, and Blaze Pizza has a newish shop in Pasadena plus one in Irvine. Another to add to the fast-pizza list is The Pizza Studio, which opened last week near USC, and plans more locations (though the rumor about it opening at Figand7th is still just a rumor).
This is the same idea as the others - in assembly line fashion, you pick the crust (traditional, whole grain and flax seed, rosemary-herb, and gluten-free), the sauce (tomato, olive oil, tangy bbq, basil pesto) and any combination of cheese, meats, veggies and one twist, add a spice, like truffle salt or Old Bay. The pie comes to you in minutes, hot and crispy. They're priced $7.99 for unlimited toppings, which in theory is always a good idea until you couldn't keep your cravings in check and you create something you can barely lift from the plate. It's also pretty Trojan-friendly, considering this first location. The Pizza Studio is now open daily from 11 AM to 11 PM.
