Build your own at Hole in the Wall
Two weeks into 2013 and our grill is already filled with more sizzling burger news than we can handle. First up, Hole in the Wall Burger Joint, which always ranks high on the Zagat survey's burger lists, had to move from its hole-in-the-wall location tucked behind a Winchell's donuts just east of the 405 (citing landlord disputes) last November. Unemployed Eater says it has since relocated and slinging burgers once again, now in Santa Monica with more space, and new menu items like milkshakes, desserts and extra daily specials. Open 11 AM-10 PM daily (2200 Colorado Ave.; 310-449-0147).

Smash Burger opened in Culver City at the end of December bringing its loaded "smashed" burgers closer to LA proper (the first location opened in Thousand Oaks), including the homage to SoCal beef burger topped with crispy wontons, fried egg, cilantro, cucumber, lettuce, tomato and ginger dressing on a bun dotted with black and white sesame seeds. Now open 10 AM-10 PM daily (10704 Venice Blvd.; 310-893-6244).

We finally have a date for the Alhambra brick-and-mortar location for the Grill 'Em All boys: January 19 if all goes as planned, according to Eater. As we mentioned before, Ryan Harkins and Matthew Chernus, who won the Great Food Truck Race and topped our 2013 survey for food trucks, plan on serving the classic metal-ripping burgers from the menu, the Belgian-style fries, and those addictive cheese-filled tater tots. And beer! (19 E. Main St.)

And Fatburger is readying a spot in Downtown LA, according the Downtown News. The 50-seat restaurant should open on the ground floor of the 888 International Tower Building in about two weeks, with a grand opening slated for next month (888 S. Figueroa St.) [via Grub Street]
