It's hard to believe we'll be going into 2013 without the original A.O.C., but only because it's being moved to what's currently Il Covo - formerly Orso - just more west on West Third. Word finally came down that Suzanne Goin and Caroline Styne will close their wine bar and small plates restaurant after the New Year's Eve pig roast blowout (that's right, for $90 per person at the early seating, $125 for late with Champagne toast, music, etc.).
Until then, you can be the official menu preview tasters as Goin and chef de cuisine Lauren Herman are testing new dishes for the A.O.C. 2.0 menu as we speak. If you see focaccia with baby broccoli, bagna cuda and burrata, sweet potatoes with romesco, spinach and lardons, and lamb tagine with couscous and tamarind prunes on the menu between now and December 31, get them. Then you'll know what's in store for the new location.
And if you're a fan of that amazing wine list, apparently there's a wine "moving sale" happening at A.O.C. as we speak, too. A lot of reds are being discounted (dine-in only) this week, probably because no one wants to move a whole wine cellar. That, and they probably should be consumed sooner rather than later. Here's a list, but it will be updated as the final days near.
PS: Il Covo is officially closed, deep in the throes of construction for the new A.O.C.
