Maybe it’s the threat of the apocalypse that has chefs and restaurateurs scrambling to open door of their new restaurants and bar. “I’ve been working on this thing all year, and will get at least on customer served before the world comes to an end,” must be the thought on all of their minds.

This week marks the most consecutive restaurant opening we’ve seen in 2012. Michael Gebert at Grub Street helped confirmed this, and has his own ideas about the newcomer craze. We will do our best to provide coverage as they open, including pretty pictures and menu details. But in the meantime, here is a schedule of what to expect and how to conquer ten new bars and restaurants.

Monday: Last week, we gave you a first look at the resurrected Glunz Tavern. Tonight, they will be pouring their first cocktail since closing 90 years ago.

Tuesday: Start the day with a burger at Edzo’s, which is opening their first Chicago location in Lincoln Park. The original in Evanston boasts on of the best burgers in and around the city. Grace, the highly anticipated restaurant from Alinea and Avenues veteran chef Curtis Duffy, opens this evening. It began taking reservations in November; so don’t expect to snag a table until 2013 (assuming Earth still exists). Gather will also open this night in the former LM space.

Wednesday: The far north side will see it’s first notable cocktail bar run by alums of In Fine Spirits. The bar called Ward Eight will not only serve drinks such as eggnog and hot buttered rum, but also classic cocktails as well as hosting mixology classes so patrons can learn how to make the drinks first-hand. Waffles, the South Loop breakfast spot will also open another location in Lakeview.

Thursday: Threatening to steal the spotlight from Duffy for biggest opening of the week is chef Stephanie Izard with Little Goat. Izard will open the bakery, café and bar portion of the restaurant at 6 AM, but dinner service in the larger dining area will not begin until later this month.

Friday: It’s rumored that Bub City, the Melman brothers’s country-western BBQ joint and bar, as well as the ground floor bar of Alpana Singh's Boarding House will open sometime before the end of the week.

Saturday: In River North, the team behind Kanela Breakfast Club will take a shot with a industrial-themed sports bar called Municipal Bar + Dining Company.

Sunday: And on the seventh day we rest with large glass of wine and our feet kicked up on the coffee table to celebrate surviving ten openings.
