Here’s an idea - get out of town this weekend to embrace the Christmas spirit at Martha’s Vineyard, where it’s quiet and quaint. The 31st Annual Christmas in Edgartown happening December 7-9, kicks off Friday afternoon with the Lighting of the Lighthouse Ceremony at the Harbor View Hotel (5-7 PM). Complimentary hot chocolate and refreshments are part of the fun, followed by caroling and movie screenings.



The weekend, sponsored by the Edgartown Board of Trade, includes a full menu of holiday festivities. Tour open houses to gawk at decorations (with cookie treats), visit with Santa, attend book signings and visit local restaurants for special events. Warm up with Chesca’s sauce sampling on Friday night; check out the 28th Great Chowder Contest Saturday (noon-2 PM); sample holiday treats at the annual cookie tasting; and relax at Water Street’s Sunday brunch - with holiday shopping in between (508-939-0199; click here for details).
