Some news out of Midtown before we head out for the weekend. We just got word that Beacon, chef Waldy Malouf's large New American on 56th Street, is closing on December 22 after 14 years in business. Chef Malouf was known for his wood fired pizzas - we haven't heard a reason for the shutter, but everyone and their sister is doing pizza at fancy restaurants so we're sure the increased competition didn't help. The eatery is taking reservations through the last day.
