Los Angeles International Airport this week unveiled a preview of its futuristic $1.9 billion new Tom Bradley International Airport. Scheduled to open in phases starting in August, the new terminal will have 18 boarding gates (nine of which can handle double decker A380 planes), a 50,000 square foot lobby with 60 shops and restaurants, and a 150,000 square foot Great Hall with shops, restaurants, bars, a kids play area and spa. Along with airport fixtures like Starbucks and Replay newsstands, fliers will find LA names like celeb-favorite boutique Fred Segal and cult-foodie joint Umami Burger. Also on deck? Pieces by local artists, including a 7,000-pound sculpture entitled Air Garden and a massive suspended tapestry entitled Woven Walk. The entire terminal is expected to be completed within two years.
