Truck Full of Pork Belly Catches Fire, Closes I-35

Bacon lovers, beware the enticing smell on the highway: a truck loaded with pork bellies caught fire earlier this afternoon, shutting down the 1900 block of southbound I-35 for several hours. The Austin American-Statesman reports that the tractor-trailer had a mechanical malfunction and was engulfed in flames. Via KXAN:

"The driver was able to get out without being injured, but a dog he was riding with died in the flames, officials said."  

The highway was scheduled to reopen at 4 PM.

We’re hoping this doesn’t translate to a pork belly shortage in the days to come.
