Photo of the Day: Mayer Hawthorne's Umami Burger

If you had to come up with a burger for sexy retro-soul singer Mayer Hawthorne? Dude lives in LA, so you'd think it would be something akin to an American, or at least, California classic. You know, lettuce, tomato, cheese, something. But no. The Umami Restaurant Group and singer collaborated on a signature burger - The Hawthorne, the first of many artist-exclusive burgers to come - which will be available at Umami Burger Urban next week. It's said to represent Hawthorne's "flashy buy classy" style: Umami beef patty, cognac-infused parsnip puree, cognac fondue sauce, hatch chilies and chile straws. Because nothing says "classy" like cognac and parsnips. Hawthorne will be there for the unveiling - DJing, eating, and fighting off starry-eyed fans on October 9 (1520 N. Cahuenga Blvd.).
