Queso to the people |
Had a lunch craving for puffy tacos, but didn't know where to go? Thankfully Josef Centeno has already opened Bar Ama for lunch, only a mere few weeks after its dinner debut. This means pork barbacoa in crispy, chewy puffy taco shells, borracho beans, chicken fried steak and, yes, queso, are all available Monday through Thursday (11:30 AM-2:30 PM) and Friday and Saturday (11:30 AM-3 PM) (118 W. 4th St.; 213-687-8002).
Drink This
You've had Sierra Nevada IPA a million times, but if you haven't had many of the brewery's small-batch brews like the Celebration Fresh Hop, Side Car Amber Ale, or On the Rocks Scotch Ale, get to Blue Palms Brewhouse this Saturday (January 5) for the Sierra Nevada Tap Takeover. Starts at 5 PM; get a truffle burger while you're at it (6124 Hollywood Blvd.; 323-464-2337).
Do This
Learn everything you wanted to know about rice at the Oshugatso Family Festival at the Japanese American National Museum on Sunday (January 6). Food writer and cooking teacher Sonoko Sakai hosts vairous events throughout the day, including a rice tasting from 11:30 AM-1 PM (you can purchase there, too), and an onigiri-making contest from 1-3 PM (100 N. Central Ave., Little Tokyo)
