Where to Brunch on New Year's Day

Ah New Year’s Day. A time to reflect on new beginnings. A time to make resolutions for the year ahead. A time to eat off a hangover from the previous night’s revelry. Here’s where to eat on the first day of 2013.



Joe Doe Soak up all that excess booze with Joe Dobias’s famous biscuits and corned duck hash ($17) or pork and beans with two fried eggs, challah toast and meat chili ($14) from 11am- 4pm.

Angolo SoHo Chef Michael Berardino's grilled cheese parmigiano ($18) with speck, toma and besciamella, topped with an egg was made to be a friend to hangovers. 11am-4pm.

The bloody Marias and margaritas will be flowing at MexiBBQ from noon-4pm. Add $11 to your entrée for unlimited drinks.

China Latina executive chef Julieta Ballesteros will serve her rendition of the ultimate hangover cure, chilaquiles ($16): Tortilla casserole, shredded chicken, tomatillo, red salsa, Chihuahua cheese, refried beans with 2 poached eggs ($16). noon-4pm

Neely’s Barbecue Parlor will host a “good luck” New Year’s Day brunch with a complimentary plate of “hoppin John” for every table. This savory dish, which features black eyed peas, rice, bacon, onion and spices, is a Southern tradition to bring money and happiness. 10am-3pm.

Brunch is until 6pm at Back Forty and Back Forty West, perfect for late risers. The regular menu will be on hand in addition to specials like house-made mortadella with eggs Benedict on house English muffin with black pepper hollandaise. noon-6pm.

Pizza makes everything better, and the wood oven will be raging at Rafele. Ask chef Raffaele Ronca to fire up the “Mista,” with market greens, crispy goat cheese and caramelized walnuts ($10) noon-3:30pm.

Lexington Brass continues on the indulgence theme with dishes like to the fried chicken and waffles with honey butter and syrup ($19). 11:30am-3pm.

Sugar and Plumm goes savory on New Year’s Day with brunch by executive chef Ben Dodaro. The “Hangover Helper” offers a heaping skillet filled with an heirloom egg, NY cheddar, a variety of breakfast meats, marble potato and salsa verde. From 8:30am.

Isola at Mondrian SoHo will serve up brunch favorites like French toast with caramelized bananas and vanilla maple mascarpone ($17). 11:30am-3pm.

La Palapa will be serving Menudo, the famous Mexican hangover-curing stew, on New Year’s Day. 11:30-3pm.
