Sweet: La Monarca Bakery Opens in South Pasadena

Just in time to get your Rosca de Reyes - King's Cake or Mexican Epiphany bread - La Monarca Bakery debuted its fourth location, this time taking on South Pasadena. The new bakery and is right on the Gold Line's Mission stop, which also abuts the popular Thursday night So Pas farmers market. Look for an array of pastries, sweet breads and savory specialties, including bolillos, pan dulce, chorizo quiche, and Mexican mollettes, sandwiches made with beans mole and cheese. The Rosca de Reyes is available as a whole cake (with a plastic baby Jesus hidden inside) or by the slice. The daily hours are 8 AM to 6 PM (1001 Mission St.; 626-403-6860).
