The future of Broadway continues to get brighter in Downtown LA, and now just a bit more Frenchified. Figaro, the longstanding Los Feliz bistro, debuted its massive new restaurant between 6th and 7th streets, according to Bringham Yen. The two-story space is in a historic building (it was Schaber's Cafeteria in 1928) between 6th and 7th streets, with a dining room, bar and a patisserie taking up one whole side. The menu is similar to the Vermont Avenue original, so omelettes, salades, jambon, quiche and more for breakfast, lunch and dinner. The new Figaro is across from the beautiful Los Angeles Theatre, a block from Clifton's Cafeteria, itself still in the middle of an overhaul, and just a few more from Umamicatessen and the forthcoming Ace Hotel. Lots of cool stuff happening down there (618 S. Broadway; 213-622-2116).

The Cal-Med Tapenade is now open in the Olympic Collection at Olympic and Sawtelle. The sleek newcomer has an open kitchen, several communal tables and "an overal angular look." Chef Ressul Rassallat, who hails from the Lodge at Pebble Beach, Four Seasons Beverly Hills and the long-gone L'Orangerie, is serving dishes like parmesan bacon brioche, brussels sprouts with almonds and capers, beef picata, chicken romesco and ricotta beignets. Dinner only for now (11301 W. Olympic Blvd.; 310-312-6233) [via Eater]
