The first-floor dining room and bar of The Sinclair |
The venue will only be open the night of shows for now, though a spokesperson for the project said the restaurant is scheduled to open for dinner service by the end of the month. Shows on the calendar include tonight, December 13 and through the weekend, with other shows later in the month and beyond. Many shows, featuring indie as well as established and celebrity artists, are 18 or 21 and older, while some are “all ages."
The Bowery, a New York-based promotion company, and consulting chef Michael Schlow (Radius, Via Matta, Tico, Alta Strada, Happy’s Bar + Kitchen) is behind the project. Schlow is not a stranger to combining good eats with great music; he’s been a personal chef to Billy Joel, has fed Bono at Radius and counts Michael Stipe (former lead vocals, R.E.M.) among his pals.
The space features a 525-seat, state-of-the-art concert hall with an adjacent restaurant. There’s a 54-seat dining room and bar on the first floor with oak banquettes and reclaimed oak tables; the upstairs dining room, marked by an open kitchen and amber velvet curtains, seats about 50. The Sinclair is designed with a touch of Americana with antiques and a display of vinyl records. For now, guests can order drinks and receive “limited menu options” in the first floor dining room. Once the restaurant is in full swing, guests will have the option of dining upstairs. A seasonal second-floor 50-seat patio/terrace overlooks Church Street.
While Schlow is consulting, the executive chef Marcellus Coleman will be at the helm. Coleman was most recently at Abe & Arthur’s in New York City, and has worked with Schlow to create a menu befitting of the restaurant’s American cuisine with gastropub influences. The menu will be comprised of snacks, small plates, large plates and dishes to share. The menu is still being finalized.
The Sinclair will eventually be open seven days, serving lunch, dinner and weekend brunch, regardless of scheduled shows. The no-fee ticket box office will have its own hours to purchase tickets for upcoming shows.
