Locke-Ober Auction Sees the End of an Era

It was a bittersweet goodbye to Locke-Ober on Friday when the contents of the 137-year-old iconic restaurant in Downtown Crossing were auctioned off. Upwards of 225 people attended the event, according to a Boston Globe report.

Old menus, dishes and photos were among the usual restaurant furniture and equipment pieces you'd expect.

The auction was put on by the new owners James P. Robertson, Michael Fallman and Jay Hajj, of Mike’s City Diner, who bought the property last month for $3.3 million.

The new owners plan to maintain a restaurant on the first floor while turning the upstairs levels into luxury condos. It was on the second floor in one of the private dining rooms that John F. Kennedy reportedly held private dinners.
