4505 Meat's famed 'Zilla Dog
Devotees of Ryan Farr and his 4505 Meats company should be salivating at the news that the king of meat himself will be opening an artisan butcher shop and quick-service deli counter outpost in the Mission mid-month. We talked with Rarr directly who confirms that the new take-out only storefront at 1901 Mission Street will be centered around a central butcher block from which he’ll be working daily, cutting and grinding meat to order. But the real appeal for us foodies will be the extra amenities that Farr tells us that he’ll be hawking at the new space, including a bonus new menu item.

Daily goodies will include cold cuts, housemade pickles, terrines and a selection of ready-to-eat hot dogs and sausages, along with daily specials such as green chile chili and smoked meats like brisket and pulled pork sold by the pound for take-away. Which means those of us who live in the south end of the city no longer have to schlep to the Ferry Plaza market on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturday to get Farr’s signature ‘Zilla Dog, a three-napkin affair featuring a bacon-studded hot dog slathered with chicharrones and Namu kimchi (but alas, they'll be no cheeseburgers here). Even better, Farr revealed to us that he'd also be serving exclusive-to-the-Mission chicharrones nachos smothered with chimichurri sauce, similar to his popular chicharrones fries that have become popular at local festivals like Outside Lands.

Farr’s small but mighty meatopia is expected to soft open next Friday just in time for placing all your Christmas orders. Those holiday treats, such as truffled geese, smoked hams, stuffed pork roasts, fresh sausages and stocks, will be listed on his website shortly. To start, the store's hours of operation will be Wednesday-Sunday from 10 AM-6 PM.
