Costume Party at Cantina: In honor of the repeal of Prohibition, Cantina in Downtown San Francisco is hosting a costume ball. But don’t reach for those funny hats and boas - the owners invite guests to dress as their favorite cocktail – be it a Rob Roy, Zombie or Sex on the Beach (the sartorial choices are endless). The party, which is a benefit for the non-profit Barbary Coast Conservatory of the American Cocktail, is being co-produced by Drambue and Campo De Encanto Pisco, will feature Om Records DJ Boogie on the decks and plenty of booze (550 Sutter St, 8 PM- 2 AM, admission is $10 with all proceeds benefitting the Barbary Coast Conservatory, get tickets online).
Five-Cent Beers and Parade at 21st Amendment Brewery: This aptly named SoMa brewpub is pulling out all the stops for its annual Repeal Day celebration. The festivities kick off with a parade at 4 PM followed by a speakeasy party featuring five-cent beer and live jazz. In addition, they’ll be Prohibition-era cocktail for sale and a charity poker beginning at 6 PM. Guests are encouraged to wear their best '30s attire. Admission is free to march in the parade and guests are encouraged to wear ‘30s attire, but you'll need the secret password to attend the after-party (563 2nd Street, 4 PM – 2 AM; follow 21stAmendment’s Twitter feed for clues on the password).
$3 Speakeasy Beers at the Royal Exchange: On Wednesday, this FiDi sports bar will be transformed into a speakeasy celebrating the end of, well the speakeasy, with a big old cocktail party. They’ll be rolling back the price of San Francisco’s Speakeasy Beers (both the Prohibition Ale and the Big Daddy Ale) to $3 and offering special themed $5 cocktails such as the Al Capone Bullet, The Bootlegger and The Bugsy Malone (301 Sacramento St, 2 – 9:30 PM, admission is free but patrons are asked to bring an unwrapped toy for the San Francisco Firefighters Toy Program; mention the secret password “speakeasy” and receive one free appetizer- choice of pork slider, cod bite or spinach dip, one per customer with the purchase of a drink).
Weeklong Celebration at Chaya Brasserie: Why wait ‘til Wednesday? All week long the Embarcadero-based Chaya Brasserie will be celebrating Repeal Day with six Prohibition-inspired cocktail specialties available at the bar and lounge. The bartenders will be donning 1920s and 30s attire but patrons can come as they are to enjoy the Earl of Martinez (godfather to the Martini), A-B 33, a variation of an Al Capone favorite, and the whiskey-based Scofflaw (132 The Embarcadero, all cocktails are $12, offered from now through December 9).
