LA has a love affair with hot dogs, and we love wacky toppings on anything, so Vancouver's JapaDog should fit in perfectly. Grub Street deciphers the growing chain's blog to find out that the West Coast is next on its list, after the success of its storefront in New York. No word on exactly when and where we'll get the hot dogs topped with seaweed and teriyaki, grated daikon and soy, and Kurobuta sausage topped with bonito flakes, but they are coming.
The flavors aren't a stretch. We already have a couple Japanese hamburger spots (Fukuburger, Humble Potato) around town with furikake, wasabi and curry-topped burgers. JapaDog, which started out as a cart, is eyeing local malls to open as a stall in outdoor spaces and then moving inside. The owners have been touring LA shopping centers, including a "popular mall in Hollywood," so you have an idea of where it might go. Anywhere with a drinking population will work, too.
