Fatty's is ready
Fatty's, the new gastropub from the guys behind Smoke and Brick + Mortar, has officially debuted in the former Oak Fire Pizza space. Fatty isn't supposed to be the name they call you after eating short rib pizzas, pork chops and grits, or fried chicken and waffles. Instead it's an homage to Fatty Arbuckle, the silent film star who mentored Charlie Chaplin and discovered Buster Keaton and Bob Hope. As many gastropubs do, there's a specialty cocktail list with a nod to the classics, various beers on tap and a straightforward wine list. The seats are velvet (Hollywood!), the communal tables in abundance, and the facade much more open than before. Serving daily 11-2 AM (829 N. La Cienega Blvd.; 310-854-0756).

Per usual, Adolfo Suaya can't sit still. No matter how many places under his neatly placed fedora come and go (Osaka, Boho), he keeps opening new places (Phoenix). His newest is Gaucho Chicken Cafe, which opened in, you guessed it, the former Gaucho Grill on Sunset. The space resembles Phoenix in a way, with a little more California Chicken Cafe thrown in for good measure: subway tiles, reclaimed wood, chalkboards, craft beer, rotisserie chicken, wraps, salads. Dishes on the menu are supposedly kept to under 400 calories, which includes everything from the chicken served by the quarter, half or whole bird, pita chips and hummus, or steamed vegetables. We imagine it does not include the Argentinian wine or sangria (7980 Sunset Blvd.).
