The next 10 days are shaping up to be pretty awesome, thanks to the July Fourth holiday, making working next week somewhat of a joke (don’t tell our boss we said so). Start your summer partying with a decadent dessert, a limited-time butter burger, an all-you-can-eat ice cream fest and dollar-off beers for the Tour de France. Go pursue happiness, it’s patriotic.

Eat This

Pot de Crème at Pennsylvania 6
We nearly forgot about the rich dark chocolate custard nestled in the bottom of this dessert at the bi-level American bistro on 12th Street, because what was on top stole the show. The white chocolate gelato is the star here - it’s also served on its own, but you don’t want to miss adding the crunchy-and-soft caramelized bananas or roasted macadamias to your spoonfuls ($8; 267-639-5606).

FHA Burger at Cedar Point Bar and Kitchen
Until the end of June - aka for only a couple more days - you can get this special burger at the Fishtown restaurant. Beef from Sweet Stem Farm is stuffed with butter and then topped with Cherry Grove Farm cheddar, a green tomato, jalapeño chutney and the showstopper: chicken-fried bacon. It’s served with a side of house chips, as if you needed them ($15; 215-423-5400).

Do This

Super Scooper Ice Cream Festival
For the 15th year, this annual fund-raiser for the Joshua Kahan Fund will take over Penn’s Landing to raise money to help children with leukemia. On both Saturday and Sunday, a $7 donation will get you in and provide you will all-you-can-eat ice cream from noon-6 PM. An especially tasty way to donate to The Children’s Hospital of Pennsylvania.

Tour de France With Ommegang at Devil’s Den and Old Eagle Tavern
Forget about Armstrong and cheer on the next generation of American cyclists at Erin Wallace’ South Philly or Manayunk bars. At both locations, all pours of Ommegang drafts will be $1 off when the race is showing - which will happen every day from June 29-July 21. Plus, with the purchase of a glass, you’ll be entered to win a gift basket of assorted beer-related prizes.

America’s Oldest Sweet Shop Gets a Hipster Makeover
Smithsonian magazine stops by Shane’s Confectionery for a profile, rightfully swooning over the Berley brothers and their recent restoration of the historic Old City candy shop. Along with a concise history of the store, you’ll find some pretty fantastic photos of the boys making sugar magic.

Will Hops Save This Family Farm?
Modern Farmer looks at a woman’s efforts to save her family’s upstate NY farm from being sold off and turned into condos by planting a crop she can manage from her home 450 miles away in DC. East Coast hops are rising in demand, as brewers here look for local sources, so the chances are good that we’ll see more and more hop growers in the Northeast, including in Pennsylvania.
