New Chef for Barnyard Venice, Debuts February 1

When the news hit that former Ubuntu chef Jeremy Fox found a permanent place at Barnyard, a farm-chic restaurant planned for Pacific Avenue in Venice, it was big. But then he left that for Old Soul (which he also ditched), and things were delayed for the restaurant - construction, and the search for a chef was on. We learned that Jesse Barber would be the incoming chef, and today the Rundown has a sneak peek of the finished space, a mix of diner, vintage rec room and beach chic, set to open on February 1.

Barber is no stranger to the Venice scene. He was the opening chef de cuisine at Tasting Kitchen and "trained with Thomas Keller at French Laundry" (quotes for that until Besha Rodell confirms whether he actually did time there or not), so of course he skews toward the seasons and bold flavors. With a name like Barnyard, you can expect more rustic-refined fare, things like clams with white beans and fennel, cassoulet, chanterelles and peas, and lamb with seared escarole and slsa verde.
