Looking for a low key, family friendly New Year’s Eve activity? Consider heading out to Falls Church or Old Town Alexandria where the town centers will offer an evening of activities to suit all ages and interests.

Falls Church’s Watch Night, a massive, free, all-volunteer gala with live music, inflatable play-places, and entertainment including a  swing dance orchestra at a local church, karaoke, a puppet show and a scavenger hunt centers at Broad and Washington Streets, with music beginning at 7:30 PM. Local restaurants like Argia, Haandi and Pilin Thai will be open and serving their regular menus, along with specials,plus there’s free popcorn and hot chocolate for revelers.Music in the major bandstand starts at 7:30 PM, and culminates with a midnight countdown.

Alexandria’s First Night festivities include more than 100 live performances throughout Old Town, and end the evening with a spectacular fireworks display on the Potomac River. Activities for children start at 2 PM and continue through the evening. The afternoon scavenger hunt is a major attraction. Live music will range from jazz to hand bell ringers, with dances held at several indoor locations. Besides food trucks, and vendors, popular Old Town restaurants like Eamonn’s- A Dublin Chipper, Pizzeria Paradiso, RedRocks and Virtue Feed and Grain will be dishing their specialties for hungry celebrants.Tickets are $20, free for children 12 and under.
