The Best Thing We Ate Last Night: Scallops at Il Pittore in Philly

Well it wasn't exactly last night, but this weekend we once again ventured to nearby Philadelphia and sampled some amazing plates at Chris Painter's Il Pittore. The chef's modern Italian dishes range from an array of handmade pastas, antipasti and mains, from which we ordered the potato croquetta to start, the lobster tortellini and the duck agnolotti for the second, and for mains the scallops with butternut squash puree/mushroom sformata and the sea bass. The scallop dish was probably our favorite as it was one of the most unique flavor combinations we've had with the item before. The creamy butternut squash puree mixed with the slight acidity of the mushroom sformata paired perfectly with the sweet, perfectly seared scallops.
